How to keep your hedges in shape

 When Spring has come, it can only mean one thing. It’s time to trim the hedges. It is a joy to see when you pass your neighbor yard, you see the have a neat and tidy hedge. It is not impossible to make your hedge to look like that too. However, it may take time to get it done. You may want to do it by hand. But that would take even more of your time. It is recommended to have a powered hedge trimmer that will save you time and energy. If you do not already have one, you can buy one at Lowes or Home-depot.
 Before you get started to remember safety first,
Make sure you wear appropriate clothing and safety equipment before you start
cutting your hedges

Once you have your power tool up and running. You are ready to get your hedge

Visualize in your mind what kind of shape you want to have after you're done. and then selectively cut back out-of-place branches.

Begin shaping hedges

Work slowly – step back from the plant frequently to look at the overall shape.

Hold trimmer blades parallel to the hedge for straight cuts

while shaping the hedges, stand away 10 feet to preview your work

Cut stems back to a lateral branch within the plant canopy to hide the stub

To prevent shading, shape hedges so they are wider at the base than the top..

 Natural Hedges require little pruning beyond general maintenance.

Work from the bottom of the hedge upwards to direct falling foliage away from the plant.

For Young hedges you may require shearing after each new flush of growth to encourage branching.
