Hedge Trimming

Some believe that Hedge trimming is only done for visual appeal because a neat and tidy hedge is a joy to see.Yet Hedge trimming is necessary to train the hedge to grow to its fullest capacity. You may not see instant results after trimming,  yet by the end of the second year of your hedges growth, hedge trimming should become a bi-annual event. Hedges are usually grown from shrubs that have two vegetation phases within a year, and another at the end of summer. At the end of summer is the best time for a second trimming, when you can shape the hedges and at their slower rate of growth they will maintain their shape the longest.
In the spring, we use Hedge Trimming to remove the winter misery including any dead or broken branches. It is best is to wait for the growth period to slow down, so that the shape you give them will stay for a longer period of time. This is the time of year when your hedges will grow the most. Just as with trees, hedges slow down their growth rate in late summer to conserve moisture and prepare for winter.
